SEURASAARI CHRISTMAS PATH 2009

Seurasaari Christmas Path (Joulupolku) is a free pre-Christmas event for families with children in Helsinki region, offering visitors peeks into the fairy-tale world and an old-time Christmas. There is much activity along the Christmas Path, starting from sing-song and play to hide-outs in the straw maze. The Christmas Gospel and a children’s Christmas scene will be performed in the Christmas Arena.

The Christmas Path is being organised for the 13th time this year. The patron of the event is Dr. Pentti Arajärvi and the parties that make it happen are the City of Helsinki, Joulupolku Association and hundreds of volunteers who prepare the Christmas Path as a present to the region’s children.

Peeks into the fairy-tale world and an old-time Christmas

There are 28 different events along the Christmas Path this year, including sing-song, story-telling, horse cart driving, a candle path, a fire exhibition, a slow-burning log fire etc.

The Christmas trees erected on the island await children’s Christmas decorations and the elves hiding along the Path their discoverers. Animals of the forest circle about the Christmas Path giving children gingerbread and cinnamon buns, and Father Christmas with his elves will listen to children’s gift wishes. Children will be served rice pudding, and they should bring their own plate and spoon.

After visiting the Christmas Path, it is worthwhile to turn off the Seurasaari bridge to see Pukkisaari Christmas preparations and if the sauna elf of Tamminiemi sauna is at home.

The Christmas Path programme with a map will be given to visitors in Seurasaari starting at 13.00 hrs.

Some Advice to Christmas Path Visitors

Children will be offered rice pudding, so they should bring their own plate and spoon. There are Christmas trees by the bridge where children can hang decorations they have made themselves. It is also a good idea to bring a torch along, to be able to see the miracles of the woods even after the dusk. One can also light one’s own candle for peace in the Christmas Arena.

Restaurant Seurasaari and a kiosk and a few campfire sites serve Christmas Path visitors, but there are also facilities where people can eat their own provisions.
